Shakira's trial order, may be jail


A Spanish court has ordered the start of the trial in the tax evasion case against the Colombian pop star Shakira. Spanish prosecutors charged him with tax evasion of 14.5 million euros between 2012 and 2014. On Tuesday local time, the trial against the singer was approved.

Earlier, a lawyer in Spain filed a tax evasion case of 1.45 million euros against Shakira. It was alleged in the case that despite being a resident of Catalonia, Shakira evaded taxes by identifying herself as a Bahamian citizen. 

A few months ago, when Spanish prosecutors offered to settle the case, Shakira refused. He claims he has never done anything wrong, such as tax evasion. But the pop star has already paid an additional 30 million euros in interest on the total owed, according to his public relations firm.


Although Shakira's trial date has not been set, Barcelona's Espluges de Llobregat city court said the singer will face 6 charges of tax evasion. Shakira has spent most of her time in Spain in the past decade as the wife of Barcelona's star footballer Gerard Pique. However, they got separated this year. However, even though the distance with her husband has increased, the Spanish court is not sparing her now.

 Earlier, Spain was strict about the tax evasion of stars like Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo. However, even if they were found guilty, they did not have to serve jail time. Because, according to the country's law, Spanish courts have the power to waive a sentence of less than two years for a first offense.
